Maharashtra: Mumbai Schools Not To Reopen This Year; Classes Of 9th To 12th Students May Commence From Monday In Other Parts

It is likely that classes of students from class 9th to class 12th may commence in other parts of Maharashtra, from next Monday, i.e. November 23, but schools in Mumbai are now likely to start in the new year

Mumbai: In a major decision taken, all private, government and municipality schools in the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation area will remain closed till December 31, in the view of the Coronavirus pandemic.  Municipal Commissioner of Mumbai Iqbal Chahal has gven the orders to keep schools in the city shut till the end of this year. A further decision on when it will be allowed to reopen wll be taken later. The Education Department of the Corporation is considering a roadmap on how to start the next academic year after December. "The decision has been taken in the wake of rise in Covid-19 cases in Mumbai. Schools will not re-open on November 23," Mumbai Mayor Kishori Pednekar said today, according to ANI. It is to be noted that the state government had earlier passed a separate order regarding schools stating that schools will reopen for students of Class 9 to Class 12 from and junior colleges November 23. However now all schools in BMC jurisdiction to remain closed till 31st December.  With the school closed till December 31, the administration will have a lot of time to prepare. The decision comes at a time when the city is fearing a second wave of corona after Diwali.
