Prayagraj: Thousands of competitive exam aspirants staged a powerful protest at the UP Public Service Commission (UPPSC) headquarters, opposing the normalisation policy in the UP PCS Prelims 2024 and RO/ARO Preliminary Exams 2023. Students gathered at the UPPSC intersection, raising slogans and holding banners, demanding a single-day, single-shift examination for both exams. Tensions escalated when some protestors broke police barricades, leading to clashes with law enforcement.

The protesting students argue that the normalisation process is unfair and are pressing for all exam shifts to be consolidated into a single day to ensure equal evaluation. They had announced a peaceful, indefinite protest at the Commission two days prior, vowing to continue until they receive an assurance that the exams will be held in one shift on a single day.

In response to the protest, heavy police deployment surrounded the UPPSC office from the early morning. Barricades were set up, with additional support from riot control vehicles, fire brigades, and the Rapid Action Force (RAF) in anticipation of unrest. Yet, students showed no signs of backing down, with anger visibly intensifying within the crowd.

On Sunday, Samajwadi Party President Akhilesh Yadav expressed solidarity with the aspirants, supporting their demand for a fair examination process. Yadav criticised the BJP, alleging that it practices deception in the recruitment process, saying, "When one form of cheating is exposed, the BJP introduces another." He argued that the government’s decision to conduct exams in two shifts is a ploy to manipulate results and obstruct the youth’s access to government jobs, ultimately forcing them into low-paying labor.

Yadav further claimed that the BJP’s intention is to keep young people unemployed, thereby benefiting corporations and donors aligned with the party. He accused the BJP of fueling a cycle where financial contributions from these profiteers are used to secure electoral victories. This cycle, he said, has become evident to the youth, who are now resolved to defeat the BJP in upcoming elections.

UPPSC aspirant Ramakant Yadav also emphasized that multi-day exams violate standard rules, explaining that such a format leads to inconsistent evaluations, putting candidates at an unfair disadvantage. With their demands backed by political figures and growing public attention, these aspirants are determined to push for change.
