In response to widespread protests by aspirants demanding a "one day, one exam" policy, the Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission (UPPSC) has reverted to conducting the civil services prelims exam on a single day. A shortage of sufficient examination centers for the high number of candidates prompted the earlier plan for multiple shifts, which required implementing a normalisation process for evaluation.

The UPPSC PCS prelims exam has faced multiple delays this year. Initially scheduled for March 17, it was deferred without explanation. Later, the exam was scheduled for October 27 but was postponed for administrative reasons. These postponements occurred amid concerns over paper leaks and exam cancellations in the state.
The PCS prelims consist of two objective-type papers: General Studies Paper-I and the CSAT (Civil Services Aptitude Test) Paper-II, both conducted on the same day with a combined duration of four hours.
