APPSC Paper Leak: Section 144 Imposed, 10 Injured In Clashes Over Question Paper Leak In Arunachal

The Arunachal government has decided to call off the swearing-in-ceremony of the Chairman and Members of the Arunachal Pradesh Public Service Commission.

A clash broke out between security personnel and protesters in Itanagar during a protest over Arunachal Pradesh Public Service Commission (APPSC) paper leak case. The incident resulted in 10 people getting injured, including four security officials. The protests were part of an indefinite bandh called by the Pan Arunachal Joint Steering Committee (PAJSC) over the APPSC paper leak case. As a result, the Arunachal Pradesh cabinet decided to call off the swearing-in-ceremony of the Chairman and Members of the Arunachal Pradesh Public Service Commission.

Section 144 of CrPC has been imposed in the Itanagar capital region from midnight due to protests regarding the paper leak case.

"Protestors had a demand regarding the deferment of the swearing-in ceremony of the Chairperson & newly appointed members of the State Public Service Commission. But, they should have respected the law & order," ANI quoted Chukhu Apa, IGP (L&O) as saying.

"To control the situation, security personnel were forced to use tear gas and resort baton charges upon the protesters. Four security officials were injured during the clash. Adequate security personnel deployed in Itanagar capital region," Chukhu Apa, IGP (L&O) said.

The IGP said that despite the imposition of Section 144 imposed by the administration, hundreds of youths came out to the street and staged protests and raised slogans against the state government. The situation turned violent when some protesters burnt down a motorcycle, and one four-wheeler, damaged properties and pelted stones at the security personnel.

Earlier on December 9, 2023, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) filed a chargesheet against eight individuals as part of an ongoing investigation into the alleged leak of a question paper for the Arunachal Pradesh Public Service Commission's Assistant Engineer (Civil) exam.
