DUSU Election Results To Be Announced On Nov 25, Says Chief Election Officer

The counting of votes for the Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU) Election 2024-25 will take place on November 25, 2024, as announced by the Chief Election Officer of DUSU Elections, Professor Satyapal Singh. He stated that the Delhi High Court has directed the university to conduct the vote counting on or before November 26, 2024, provided all discrepancies are resolved.

Professor Singh revealed that a survey had identified incomplete cleanup of defacement at certain locations. To address this, the university has decided to carry out the cleanup process on its own. Considering the above developments, the vote counting for DUSU Elections 2024-25 is scheduled for November 25, 2024.

The counting will begin at 8:00 AM in the Conference Center near the Botany Department in North Campus. Additionally, all colleges, departments, institutions, and centers have been instructed to complete the counting of their respective votes on Sunday, November 24, 2024.

Morning-shift colleges, departments, and institutions have been directed to start their vote counting at 8:00 AM, while evening-shift counterparts will begin at 2:00 PM on the same day.

The DUSU Elections 2024 were held on September 27, with 1.45 lakh eligible voters participating. Reports indicate that this year witnessed the lowest voter turnout in over a decade.

Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs), used for electing central panel members such as the president, vice president, secretary, and joint secretary, were securely stored in a strong room under 24-hour police surveillance. Meanwhile, ballot boxes for electing college representatives were safely kept at their respective colleges.

A total of 21 candidates are contesting the DUSU Elections 2024, with eight vying for the post of president, five for vice president, and four each for secretary and joint secretary.

Key contenders this year include the RSS-affiliated Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), the Congress-backed National Students' Union of India (NSUI), the left-wing All India Students' Association (AISA), and the Students' Federation of India (SFI).

Currently, the ABVP dominates the student body, holding the positions of president, vice president, and joint secretary, while the NSUI occupies the secretary's post.
