After DU & JNU, Jamia Shifts To Online Classes Till Nov 23 Due To Severe Air Pollution

Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) shifts to online classes until November 23 due to worsening air pollution, with no changes to the exam or interview schedule.

After Delhi University (DU) and Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) has also decided to conduct online classes until November 23, citing worsening air pollution in Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR). The university clarified that there will be no changes to the exam dates or interview schedules.

In an official order, Jamia stated: “The Air Quality Index (AQI) in Delhi & NCR has deteriorated to an alarmingly high level. In the larger interest of students, it has been decided that classes will be conducted online till Saturday, November 23, 2024. Regular physical classes will resume on Monday, November 25, 2024. The schedules for examinations and interviews remain unchanged.”

Similarly, DU and JNU announced shifts to online classes due to the “alarmingly high” pollution levels. DU’s online classes will continue until November 23, while JNU has extended online mode until November 22.

Meanwhile, DU issued a warning to students about a fake notice circulating online, claiming that the university would observe a winter break from November 19 to 27 due to severe pollution. The false notice also alleged that exams and interviews would proceed as scheduled. DU urged students to verify such announcements only through official channels.

Delhi Chief Minister Atishi announced that in-person classes for Class 10 and 12 will be suspended from Tuesday as the city battles “severe” pollution for the sixth straight day. In a post on X (formerly Twitter), she confirmed that all classes would shift online.

“With the imposition of GRAP-4 from today, physical classes were discontinued for all students except Class 10 and 12. However, from tomorrow, students in these classes will also have online classes,” Atishi stated on Monday.

Meanwhile, the deputy commissioner’s office in Gurugram, Haryana, announced that physical classes for students up to Class 12 will remain suspended from November 19 to 23 or until further notice.

The air quality crisis extends beyond Delhi, with cities like Mumbai and other parts of northern India also experiencing severe pollution. With AQI levels reaching alarming figures, the situation has raised nationwide concerns about the impact of pollution on public health and safety.
