14-Year-Old Ghaziabad Boy Hides Dog Bite From Parents, Dies Of Rabies A Month Later

A 14-year-old boy from Ghaziabad died of rabies on Monday evening after being bitten by a dog over a month ago. According to the police, Shahvaz who was a student of class 8, died when he was being brought back to the city from Bulandshahr, where he was taken for treatment.

A resident of Charan Singh colony under the Vijay Nagar police station area, Shahvaz was bitten by his neighbour's dog over a month ago but hid it from his parents, reported news agency PTI.

Soon he contracted rabies and began to behave abnormally and stopped eating food. It is then that his parents enquired and he revealed about being bitten by his neighbour's dog.

He was immediately rushed to a government hospital in Delhi but was denied admission on which he was taken to an Ayurvedic doctor in Bulandshahr for treatment, said the family, according to PTI.

A complaint has been lodged in the matter and action will be taken against the dog owner, said Assistant Commissioner of Police, Kotwali zone, Nimish Patil.

Activists Protest Against picking Up Of Stray Dogs

Meanwhile, a group of animal activists from Delhi NCR submitted a memorandum against the alleged picking up of stray dogs by the MCD on Tuesday. In the memorandum submitted to Mayor Shelly Oberoi, it is said that the Municipal Corporation Of Delhi (MCD) has been taking the step ahead of G20 Summit without any order, reported PTI.

Around 20 activists from the House of Stray Animals and Happy Tails Foundation visited the MCD office and requested the Mayor to “return” all stray dogs to their respective territories that were allegedly picked up.

However, MCD has denied the allegations.

Speaking to PTI, House of Stray Animals founder Sanjay Mohapatra entrusted with the task said, "Our demands include returning all stray dogs to their respective territories, immediately stop picking up of dogs, passes for all animal-related vehicles during G20, stop picking up of sterilised dogs, community kitchen and vaccination".
