Woman Comes To India To Meet Married Lover, He Shoots Her Dead. Remains Found After A Year Later

Haryana Police has found the body of a missing woman after she was murdered and buried in the Sonipat district last year.

The police on Tuesday found remains of a missing woman from Sonipat in Haryana, a year after she was murdered and buried by her lover. The shocking incident came forth after her family lodged a missing complaint last year and the police dug up all the links leading to the place where her remains were found.

According to a PTI report, the woman, identified as Monica, has gone to Canada last year to pursue higher studies. She came back to India to meet his lover Sunil who murdered her in June 2022, the police said on Wednesday.

As per the report, the Crime Investigation Agency (CIA) of Bhiwani, found Monica’s skeletal remains on Tuesday along the Garhi Jhanjhara road in Ganaur. The accused was arrested from Uttar Pradesh on April 2.

Talking to PTI over the phone, CIA-II Bhiwani in-charge Ravindra Kumar said that accused Sunil was already married to another woman when he got involved with the victim, Monica. He also had two kids with the other woman.

Police said that Sunil and Monica got married at a temple in Ghaziabad in May last year when the woman returned from Canada. He told PTI that the 23-year-old woman had gone to Canada on a student visa in January 2022 after clearing the IELTS exam.

"During our investigations, it came to the fore that between January 2022 and May 2022, the woman made a couple of trips to India," he added, quoted PTI.

Police said that Sunil murdered Monica in June 2022 and buried her body in a 10-foot-deep ditch in the fields of a farmhouse on June 29. Kumar added that Monica's family was unaware of her return to the country. After failing to contact her, the family lodged a missing persons complaint last year.

He said, as quoted by PTI, "Their marriage was also registered before a court, where the accused concealed the fact that he was already married."

Kumar said Monica was aware of the man’s marital status as she was a neighbour of the accused in Gumad village in Sonipat. She was living there with her aunt.

Speaking on why Sunil killed her, the police officer said, "Sunil did not enjoy a good marital relation with his wife and wanted to settle abroad. He had thought if Monica gets Permanent Residency (PR) in Canada, he too could move there... However, when he felt his plan was not materialising, he murdered Monica."

He added that the preliminary investigations revealed that the farmhouse belongs to the accused, but it was being verified.

The officer further said that the skeletal remains have been sent for post-mortem examination to Sonipat Civil Hospital. The procedure for conducting a DNA test is also underway, he added.

Sunil has been booked under murder and other charges, including concealing before a court that he was already married.
