Madhya Pradesh Man Strangulates Newborn Son, Was Upset About Not Having Daughter: Police

A man in Madhya Pradesh's Betul district allegedly killed his newborn son in an inebriated state.

New Delhi: The desire to have a daughter turns into a horrible tragedy in Madhya Pradesh. A man allegedly killed his newborn son in an inebriated state in MP's Betul district, as he was disappointed at not having a daughter, police said on Monday.

According to an official, the accused committed the crime because he wanted to have a daughter as he already had two sons.

The incident took place in Bajjarwada village under Kotwali police station limits on Sunday evening, reported news agency PTI.

Kotwali police station in-charge Ashish Singh Pawar said that police investigation has revealed that the accused, identified as Anil Uikey, was inebriated when he beat up his wife and snatched their 12-day-old son from her.

"The woman fled the spot, as she was scared of being beaten up further, and when she returned home later, she found the baby dead inside their hut. There were strangulation marks on the baby's neck", the official added.

He said that a first information report (FIR) was registered against Uikey under relevant provisions of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), and he was placed under arrest.

On interrogation, the accused said that he already had two sons and had hoped to have a daughter when his third son was born, the official said, the PTI report added.

In a similar incident, the bodies of two newborn children were found in a vacant plot in the Shamli district's Jalalabad town on Sunday. The bodies were found in the Thana Bhawan police station area, reported PTI.

"Two bodies of newborn children have been found. It appears that they are premature. We have sent the bodies for postmortem," PTI quoted Circle officer Shreshtha as saying.

"An investigation is going on into the matter. Police are trying to identify those who left the bodies there", she added.

In another incident, the body of a newborn girl was found in the toilet waste of Mumbai's Sion Hospital on December 8, reported PTI.

According to PTI, the newborn's body was first discovered by one of the cleaning staff at the hospital. The police have initiated a case against an unknown person and have launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
