Delhi: Man Warns Children Not To Play On The Street, Opens Fire, Injures Three

A man opened fire and injured three children in northeast Delhi after he asked them not to play on the street, PTI reported. The incident took place on August 6 when the accused was attending a function organised by a man named Qutubddin to celebrate the birth of his child.

The accused, identified as Aamir alias Hamza of New Seelampur, has been arrested. He works as a casual labour and had been involved previously in another case, police said.

The injured children were shifted to the JPC hospital by their parents and locals. All of them are out of danger now, PTI reported.

A case was registered under sections of attempt to murder (307) of the Indian Penal Code and other sections of Arms Act at Seelampur police station after a compliant was lodged by a person called Wasim.

Narrating the incident, Wasim said Aamir, with a pistol in his hand, scolded the children for playing on the street and asked them to leave on August 6.

When Wasim noticed this, he had a heated argument with Aamir following which the accused fired a bullet.

"The bullet rebounded and the three children, aged between 7-13 years, sustained injuries. After firing the bullet, Aamir fled the spot," PTI quoted a police officer as saying.

The accused was caught after cops analyzed the footage from CCTV cameras in the vicinity.

"During investigation, a police team scanned and analyzed footage from CCTV cameras in the vicinity to ascertain the escape route of the culprit," said Sanjay Sain Singh, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Northeast).

"Technical surveillance as well human sources were also deployed. Within hours, police team zeroed-in on his location and Aamir was apprehended," the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Northeast) further said.

A sophisticated semi-automatic pistol, loaded with two live cartridges, was recovered from his possession, PTI reported.
