Four Nabbed For Allegedly Stealing 90 Feet Bridge Belonging To Adani Electricity

Four men cut up the 90 feet long bridge and stole 6,000 kg of metal, worth Rs 2 lakh. The Bridge was installed in Malad (West) by discom Adani Electricity to move power cables.

Four persons were arrested by the Mumbai police, for stealing a 6,000 kg iron bridge, which was placed over a drain in the western suburbs of the city. According to a PTI report, utility company Adani Electricity used the 90 feet long metal structure in Malad (West) to move power cables. An officer from Bangur Nagar police station said this structure was moved after the permanent bridge was built over the drain in the area a few months ago.

The makeshift bridge was moved out around June 26, following this the power company filed a complaint with the police. As the police investigated, they found out the bridge was last seen at its place on June 6. The investigation became a little more difficult as there was no CCTV footage for the police to check. However, police scanned the footage of surveillance cameras installed in nearby areas and found a heavy vehicle moving in the direction of the bridge on June 11.

The police used the registration number of that vehicle to track it down. Inside the truck, cops found metal-cutting machines that had been used to dismantle the bridge and steal iron weighing 6,000 kg. The police investigation further led them to an employee of the firm that had been awarded the contract to build the bridge. The police then arrested the man and three of his accomplices last week.

The police also recovered the stolen metal, which is valued at Rs 2 lakh, news website Times Now reported. The news outlet further stated that all four have been charged with theft.  The police are now trying to ascertain if there were others involved in the case. A spokesperson from Adani Electricity Mumbai Ltd was quoted as saying by Times Of India that the material that was stolen from their site was recovered with the "prompt action of Mumbai Police" adding that further investigations are ongoing.
