Weather Updates: Delhi recorded its warmest February night in 74 years, with temperatures reaching 19.5°C. Despite the warm night, maximum temperatures remained below normal at 25°C.

Delhi experienced its warmest February night in 74 years, with the minimum temperature at Safdarjung soaring to 19.5°C on Thursday—the highest for the month between 1951 and 2025, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

The IMD stated, "Safdarjung recorded a minimum temperature of 19.5 degrees celsius today, February 27, 2025. This is the highest minimum temperature ever recorded for February at Safdarjung between 1951 and 2025."

Previously, the highest minimum temperature for February was 19 degrees celsius on February 25, 2015, considering it as the second highest on record. Other notable figures include 18.6 degrees celsius in 1973, 18.5 degrees celsius on February 20, 2015, 18.2 degrees celsius in 1992 and 18.0 degrees celsius in 1988, which marked the fifth highest, according to a report by PTI.

Despite the warm night, Delhi’s maximum temperature on Thursday was 25°C, 1.1 degrees below the normal average, under a cloudy sky, according to the IMD. This came just a day after the city recorded its highest maximum temperature of the season at 32.4°C on Wednesday.

The Vice President of Skymet Weather, Mahesh Palawat, confirmed that due to a cloudy sky and light drizzling in Delhi, the minimum temperature is likely to drop again from today and would remain steady until March 3 or 4.

On Wednesday, Delhi has witnessed the highest temperature of the season so far, with the maximum temperature reaching 32 degrees Celsius, six notches above the seasonal average, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said.

The February this year recorded a high of 32 degrees Celsius, matching the highest temperature recorded on February 27, 2023. Last year, February had seen a slightly lower maximum temperature of 29.7 degrees Celsius.

The minimum temperature in the national capital settled at 15.4 degrees Celsius, 2.9 degrees above the normal temperature. Meanwhile, the humidity levels fluctuated between 86 per cent and 59 per cent throughout the day.

Western Disturbance In First Week Of March

A fresh western disturbance is anticipated in the first week of March, bringing snowfall to the hills and shifting wind patterns. Additionally, around March 10, winter in Delhi is expected to come to an end, after which atmospheric pressure will rise, preventing any further temperature drops, according to experts.

The weather department has forecast a thunderstorm accompanied by rain on Friday, with the maximum and minimum temperatures likely to be around 23°C and 16°C, respectively.

IMD also observed two Western Disturbances moved across northern parts of India during the week. The Western Disturbances caused light rainfall/snowfall over Jammu & Kashmir on 20th & 21st February, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand on 20th February. Light to moderate rainfall was also seen over Punjab, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh on 20th & 21st February.

And, the second Western Disturbances caused light rainfall/snowfall over Himachal Pradesh and Jammu & Kashmir on 25th & 26th February, Uttarakhand on 26th February. Light to moderate rainfall was also witnessed over Punjab and Haryana on 26th February.
