According to a report by India Today, the deceased woman was identified as Kanis Fatima Ansari. Her son, Abid, expressed dismay, saying, “Unfortunate that people are snatching from the dead. We waited for 2–3 days, but now it seems that the person has stolen it and hence we have filed a complaint regarding gold jewellery."
Bus Driver Arrested
The accident took place on Monday when a civic-run BEST bus allegedly lost control near the crowded Kurla railway station, crashing into about 40 vehicles before hitting the wall of a residential society.
The bus driver, Sanjay More, has been arrested on charges of culpable homicide not amounting to murder. Investigations revealed that More, who joined on December 1, had only 10 days of training and no prior experience driving electric buses.
An out-of-control electric bus operated by the civic-run Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) ploughed into pedestrians and vehicles around 9:30 pm on Monday on SG Barve Marg in Kurla (West).
Top officials of BEST and the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) had meetings on Wednesday with private operators who are suppliers of the buses to government agencies under the wet lease model. In the meeting, they affirmed to focus on driver training and working on extra safety.
