UP Doctor 'Leaves Surgical Needle' In Teen's Head After Treatment, Investigation Underway

A doctor in Uttar Pradesh left a surgical needle in a patient's head after stitching a wound, causing severe pain. The patient's mother alleged the doctor was drunk.

A doctor at a government hospital in Uttar Pradesh’s Hapur district has come under scrutiny after allegedly leaving a surgical needle inside the head of an 18-year-old girl during treatment. The incident occurred after the doctor stitched a wound sustained by the girl, identified as Sitara, following a dispute with her neighbours.

Sitara was taken to a community health centre, where the doctor determined that stitches were necessary. Following the procedure, the medical staff bandaged her wound and discharged her.

However, upon returning home, Sitara began experiencing severe pain and was rushed to a private hospital, NDTV reported. Doctors there reopened the wound and were shocked to discover the surgical needle still inside her head. After its removal, she reportedly experienced significant relief.

According to a report by NDTV, Sitara's mother alleged that the doctor who treated her daughter was inebriated during the procedure. She stated, "We don't want anyone else to suffer like this. We demand action," while showing the needle that was extracted from Sitara’s head.

The Chief Medical Officer (CMO) of Hapur, Dr. Sunil Tyagi, confirmed that an investigation had been initiated with a two-member team to look into the matter. "Action will be taken once the report is submitted," he added.

Dr Tyagi denied the allegations that the doctor was drunk, stating, "There is no such doctor in the district, and the doctor in question does not consume alcohol."

7-Year-Old Karnataka Boy Dies Due To 'Injection Overdose'

In a separate incident, a seven-year-old boy, Sonesh, from Kenchapura village near Ajjampura in Karnataka’s Chikkamagaluru district, died on Saturday due to alleged medical negligence following an injection overdose. His father, Ashok, has filed a complaint accusing a private doctor, Dr. Varun, of being responsible for the death.

According to police, Sonesh was suffering from a high fever, and his parents took him to a private clinic for treatment. Ashok claimed that Dr. Varun administered an injection on the boy’s back and sent him home. Shortly after, Sonesh developed severe blisters and was rushed to a private hospital in Shivamogga. Despite medical efforts, he tragically passed away the following day, according to an IANS report.
