Bhopal News: An 80-year-old bedridden woman died from hunger and thirst after being locked in her house by her son, who had left the city with his family. The incident occurred in the Nishatpura area of Madhya Pradesh's Bhopal, according to the police.

The deceased, identified as Lalita Dubey, lived with her son Arun. Police investigations revealed that Arun locked his mother inside their home before travelling to Ujjain with his wife and son, India Today reported. He later informed his brother Ajay, who resides in Indore, about his travel plans.

Concerned for their mother’s welfare, Ajay requested a friend in Bhopal to check on her. Upon arriving at the residence, the friend discovered Lalita Dubey deceased, India Today's report stated.

Inspector Rupesh Dubey of the Bhopal Police informed, “The post-mortem report revealed that Lalita Dubey died of hunger. Due to her illness, she could not get up from bed to eat or take medicine, and she did not drink water for 24 hours, leading to her death. Following this, a case has been filed against her son Arun under section 105 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for unintentional murder and the Maintenance and Welfare of Parents and Senior Citizens Act”, as quoted by India Today.

Police have registered a case against Arun based on a complaint filed by Ajay. Lalita Dubey's body was sent for post-mortem examination, which confirmed “severe hunger and water loss” as the cause of death.
