Rupee falls, fuel prices surge again! Check petrol, diesel cost in your city today

The fuel price has been soaring since the past few months in the country, causing many problems for the common people. Besides, the rise of crude prices, the rupee dropped 36 paise to 73.93 against the US currency in early trade Monday.

New Delhi: Fuel prices continued to surge on Monday, with diesel prices rose by 8 paise and 9 paise in four metropolitan cities. The cost of a litre of diesel in Delhi and Kolkata saw a hike of 8 paise, the price of the same has been increased by 9 paise in Mumbai and Chennai. After the revision of the rates, diesel in Delhi is being retailed at Rs 75.46 per litre and Rs 77. 31 per litre in Kolkata. Meanwhile, in Mumbai, the diesel is being retailed at Rs 79. 11 per litre, and the same has touched Rs 79.80 per litre mark in Chennai. However, the petrol price across the four metropolitan cities remained stagnant. The fuel price has been soaring since the past few months in the country, causing many problems for the common people. A spurt in dollar demand from importers amid sustained foreign fund outflows also weighed on the rupee. Dealers said, factors like the dollar's strength against some other currencies overseas and a volatile opening of the equity markets also impacted the domestic currency. The Opposition has repeatedly blamed the Centre for the steep hike in the fuel price, while the latter has maintained that global crude oil prices and other international factors are responsible for the increase in prices of petroleum products.
