Income Tax Dept Launches 'Jhatpat Processing' Feature For Quicker ITR Filing - All You Need To Know

New Delhi: With the deadline for filing the Income Tax Return (ITR) approaching, the Income Tax Department in order to ease the filing process has launched a new initiative to make the experience better for taxpayers. It launched the ‘Jhatpat processing’ feature for a seamless ITR filing process. ALSO READ | No Need For Commuters To Stop At Toll Plazas As FASTag Becomes Mandatory From Jan 1 The IT Department took to Twitter to announce the new “Jhatpat Processing” feature.  According to the department, the feature has already been announced for ITR-1 and ITR-4 forms and taxpayers can access the same for I-T returns for the financial year 2019-20 or AY 2020-21 by visiting the e-filing website- incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in. How To Use The Feature? As the IT- Department aims to make the ease the ITR filing process and make the experience better for taxpayers, video tutorials have been uploaded on youtube for ITR-1 and ITR-2. Click Here For Video Tutorial Eligibility As per the tax department, taxpayers who have their bank accounts verified and pre-validated will be eligible to use the “Jhatpat Processing” feature. It is also worth mentioning, that there should not be any arrears or income discrepancy and there should be no mismatch in TDS or challan. ITR Filing Date Delayed Due To Covid-19 Generally, the taxpayers are supposed to file their ITR for any financial year by July 31 of every year. Meanwhile, for the financial year 2019-20 (AY 2020-21), the last date to file ITR is December 31, 2020. In view of the Covid-19 pandemic, the deadline for filing the ITR got extended multiple times. According to the data from the IT Department, around 3.82 crore people have filed ITR for AY2020-21.
