Facing Trouble Accessing EPF Passbook Portal? Here’s How To Check Your PF Balance Via SMS And Missed Call

To address portal concerns and ensure uninterrupted access to PF information, EPFO has made available alternative methods that don’t require internet access

Several users have recently reported difficulties accessing the Employees' Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) Passbook portal, the platform used for checking Provident Fund (PF) balances and transaction histories. While the portal is typically reliable, occasional disruptions can occur due to technical or administrative reasons.

Common issues include server overload from high user traffic, scheduled maintenance periods, login failures due to incorrect credentials, and account access restrictions linked to incomplete Know Your Customer (KYC) details. Additionally, outdated browsers or cached data may cause glitches in loading the portal properly.

To address these concerns and ensure uninterrupted access to PF information, EPFO has made available alternative methods that don’t require internet access: SMS and missed call services. These options offer a quick and convenient way for members to check their PF balance using a registered mobile number.

SMS Facility

EPFO members can receive their PF balance details via SMS. To use this service:

  • Ensure your Universal Account Number (UAN) is activated and your KYC, comprising Aadhaar, PAN, and bank account details, is updated.
  • Send an SMS to 7738299899 in the following format: EPFOHO UAN ENG. Replace 'ENG' with the first three letters of your preferred language (e.g., 'HIN' for Hindi, 'TAM' for Tamil).

This multilingual service supports languages including English, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, Bengali, Marathi, Gujarati, and Punjabi.

Missed Call Service

Alternatively, members can simply place a missed call to 011-22901406 from their registered mobile number. The call will disconnect automatically after a few rings, and an SMS with the latest PF balance information will be sent shortly after.
