Bank Holiday Alert: Will Banks Remain Open Tomorrow, July 17? Here's What The RBI Calendar Says

The RBI’s annual bank holiday calendar accounts for weekly closures on the second and fourth Saturdays, Sundays, and region-specific festivals.

As mid-July approaches, bank customers across India are advised to take note of regional closures scheduled under the Reserve Bank of India’s (RBI) official holiday calendar. According to the latest schedule, banks in Shillong will remain closed on Wednesday, July 17, in observance of the death anniversary of U Tirot Singh, a revered Khasi leader and freedom fighter.

The month of July includes 13 bank holidays in total, comprising a mix of national observances and state-specific festivals. These closures impact banking services at the branch level, although digital transactions remain unaffected.

Regional Holidays Affect Banking Hours This Week

Earlier this week, on July 14, bank operations in Shillong were suspended due to Beh Deinkhlam, a traditional celebration held by the Jaintia community in Meghalaya. On July 16, banks in Dehradun did not operate owing to Harela, a major agricultural festival widely celebrated in Uttarakhand’s Kumaon belt and some adjoining areas in Himachal Pradesh.

Following the closure on July 17, the week continues with banks in Agartala shutting down on July 19 for Ker Puja, a ritual unique to Tripura that seeks the blessings of the guardian deity, Ker. As always, Sunday, July 20, will be a standard weekly bank holiday across all states.

RBI Calendar Key for Holiday Planning

The RBI’s annual bank holiday calendar accounts for weekly closures on the second and fourth Saturdays, Sundays, and region-specific festivals. Though physical branches remain closed, customers can continue using ATMs, mobile banking, and online services without interruption. These digital alternatives ensure that essential banking needs can still be met during public holidays.

While most bank closures are announced in advance, occasional last-minute changes may occur due to unforeseen circumstances. Customers are encouraged to stay informed by checking with their respective branches or referring to the RBI website for timely updates. As the second half of July begins, bank users should stay alert to avoid disruptions in their financial planning and transactions.
