Layoff: A woman who had worked at a Clarks outlet in the United Kingdom (UK) for 68 years was recently laid off with only two days' notice, according to a Metro report. Jill Cornick began her career at the Clarks outlet in Blandford, Dorset, in 1956 at the age of 14, the report said. She remained with the company for nearly 70 years, even postponing her honeymoon in 1969 to attend a training course.

A few weeks ago, the company announced that the outlet would close just a few days later, leaving staff members in shock.

"I started in 1956 and have been in the same shop since. I felt well in myself and was hoping to work a few more years before retiring. It's a real shame," Cornick said.

Staff members were informed of the closure the previous Thursday, with the shop set to close the following Monday. "It was a shock for all of us," she added.

Cornick noted that her last day was emotional, with some customers nearly in tears. "Monday was overwhelming, with many people bringing in flowers and chocolates. I've helped so many customers over the years," she said.

Reflecting on her career, the 82-year-old said her fondest memories were of the colleagues she worked with over the years. "I have many highlights, but the best part was working with such great staff," she shared.

Following the decision to close the outlet, Clarks released a statement expressing appreciation for Cornick's exceptional service.

"We sincerely thank all members of the Blandford Forum store team for their contributions and commitment to providing outstanding customer service, especially Jill. Her remarkable 68 years of service and dedication are highly valued by all at Clarks. We wish Jill all the very best," a spokesperson said.
