Indian HR Asks London Marketing Specialist About Marriage Plans In Job Interview; Internet Reacts
Her post resonated with many social media users who shared similar experiences with recruiters in India. Some even urged Jain to publicly name the company involved
A London-based Indian marketing specialist recently revealed that an HR representative from an Indian company asked her if she was planning to marry soon. Janhavi Jain, 25, was taken aback by being asked one of the most personal questions women often face in job interviews. While this practice was more common in the past, it has since been discouraged by most leading organisations.
"This HR of an Indian company asked me how old I am and when I said 25, they asked me if I am looking to marry soon? Is this still happening?" Jain wrote in her post on X.

Is this still happening??
The marketing executive worked in India until August 2023 before relocating to London to join Reboxed. Her post resonated with many social media users who shared similar experiences with recruiters in India. Some even urged Jain to publicly name the company involved.
“Don't shoot the messenger here. Indian founders and hiring managers specifically ask the HRs to do such kinds of checks. It's the hiring manager- generally a middle aged, pot bellied sycophant who gives such reqs,” wrote one of the X users.
Another user added, “I understand that. In the Indian scenario, the marriages happen so suddenly that the girls leave asap leaving employers stranded. Very few are serious enough about joining back after a marriage break. I have also had scenarios where girls have told me they have to ask their husbands if they can come for an evening meeting at times. (When it’s not a regular occurrence). I can totally understand their point of view.”
A third user wrote, “Happening around the world, not just in Indian company. If you are newly married then you have to answer your pregnancy plans. Company works on manpower & they can't afford leaves and we are unfortunately born with uterus.”
