Speaking highly of Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman's eighth budget, CM Nitish highlighted the special schemes and welfare measures aimed at benefiting Bihar, which is set to hold an Assembly election later this year.

He particularly commended Sitharaman for two significant tax proposals: raising the income tax rebate ceiling from Rs 7 lakh to Rs 12 lakh and revising the new regime tax slabs. Sitharaman explained that this move would allow the middle class to receive a substantial increase in disposable income, with some individuals potentially gaining up to Rs 1.1 lakh.
Projects For Bihar In Union Budget 2025
CM Nitish also shared a series of other announcements aimed at Bihar’s growth. "Through the creation of a Makhana Board, farmers in Bihar will benefit from improved production, processing, value addition, and marketing of Makhana," he said. Additionally, the establishment of greenfield airports would increase international flight connections, which, according to the Bihar Chief Minister, would significantly benefit the state's residents and boost its economic development.
Other notable provisions for Bihar included economic assistance for the Western Koshi Canal project in Mithilanchal, aimed at supporting local farmers, as well as the expansion of IIT-Patna to promote technical education. The creation of the National Institute of Food Technology, Entrepreneurship and Management will provide youth with opportunities for skill development, entrepreneurship, and employment, CM Nitish added.
Further tax relief came in the form of an increase in the limit for the Kisan Credit Card, from Rs 3 lakh to Rs 5 lakh, benefiting farmers. Additionally, the budget allocated a significant increase in MSME credit guarantees, with the cover rising from Rs 5 crore to Rs 10 crore, creating further job opportunities. Kumar welcomed these measures, stating that the budget took steps to support the poor, youth, and farmers.
Sitharaman, wearing a silk saree with Madhubani art, presented her budget in the Lok Sabha, where members of the ruling NDA (National Democratic Alliance) celebrated her announcements for Bihar with enthusiasm. Among the prominent mentions was the development of infrastructure in Bihar, including the promotion of tourism at Lord Buddha-related destinations. However, opposition parties took issue with the government's coalition dynamics, protesting the budget as the finance minister delivered her speech.
As Sitharaman rose to present the budget, opposition leaders, including Samajwadi Party (SP) Chief Akhilesh Yadav and Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi, raised concerns over the tragic stampede deaths at the Kumbh Mela in Prayagraj. The opposition members chanted slogans such as "Dharam virdohi sarkar down, down" (down with the anti-religion government), before staging a walkout. The Trinamool Congress (TMC) members did not join in the protest.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, accompanied by other senior ministers, lauded Sitharaman's speech, and the chamber resonated with chants of "Modi, Modi" from the treasury benches.
Kumar thanked both Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman for presenting a budget that he described as an important step towards the state's growth and prosperity.
