What’s Economic Survey?
Known as the flagship publication of the finance ministry, the document is prepared by the Economic Division of the Department of Economic Affairs (DEA) under the guidance of the CEA. After the document is prepared, the Survey has to get approval from the finance minister.
The Economic Survey tracks the state of the economy in the past year. The document showcases the key challenges expected and the way out. The document is divided into several chapters giving detailed information on the prospects of key sectors including the domestic and external state of the Indian economy. The Economic Survey also has a theme every year. Last year, the theme was "agile approach".
The survey released last year by the then Principal Economic Advisor Sanjeev Sanyal moved it from a two-volume format to a single volume. He said the earlier two-volume format was way too “unwieldy.” Last year's the Survey predicted economic growth of 9.2 per cent in real terms in 2021-22, while GDP growth was pegged at 8-8.5 per cent for 2022-23.
