Mahindra Armado Military Vehicle Makes Its Debut At Republic Day Parade

Designed and developed in India, first deliveries of the Armado started in June 2012.

New Delhi: Along with the state tableaus, there were military vehicles shown at the 2024 Republic Day Parade and amongst them, the new Mahindra Armado made its first appearance here. The Armado is India's first Armoured Light Specialist Vehicle and has been made specially for the Indian armed forces.

Designed and developed in India, first deliveries of the Armado started in June 2012. In terms of specifications, the Armado gets a high level of ballistic protection with being up to the B7, Stanag Level II while being protected from all sides. An Armored Light Specialist Vehicle (ALSV) is a very important machine and is being used for various purposes.

Being a modular vehicle, it can be used by quick response teams, Special Forces, counter-terrorism operations, border patrolling and more. If we talk about the power, the Armado has a 3.2-litre turbocharged direct-injection diesel powertrain that can also run on multi fuels. There is a good amount of power on tap with 215hp and 500 Nm of torque. Of course, power is sent to all four wheels and it has a 4-speed automatic gearbox.

The top speed of the Armado is 120kph with a payload capacity of 1,000kg. The vehicle can be driven for 50km with tyres with no air or with a puncture while the size is 318/80-R17.

Other highlights include a self-cleaning exhaust and a filtration system for use in extreme conditions. At their first appearance at the 2024 Republic Day parade at Kartavya Path, we saw the Armado in its two avatars (LSV and VMIMS). The design is quite butch and functional with various factors being kept in mind.
