Govardhan Puja 2023: Nov 13 Or 14? Know Exact Date, Puja Vidhi, Shubh Muhurat — All Details

Govardhan Puja 2023: Unraveling the date dilemma, puja vidhi, and auspicious timings for a spiritual celebration - read on to know the exact date, significance of the puja and more.

Govardhan Puja 2023: Govardhan Puja, an integral part of Diwali celebrations, is traditionally observed on the first day of the Kartik month's bright fortnight. However, this year marks a deviation from the norm. With Diwali falling on November 12, the Govardhan Puja festivities are scheduled for November 13, continuing until 2:57 PM, which aligns with the end of Amavasya, according to Drik Panchang website.

The following day, due to the presence of Amavasya during sunrise, Govardhan Puja will not take place, leading to the postponement of Annakut celebrations to November 14.

Govardhan Puja Katha:

According to scriptures and Vedas, Govardhan Puja involves worshipping various deities such as Varuna, Indra, and Agnidev. The day holds significance as Lord Krishna once lifted the Govardhan Parvat on his little finger to protect the Braj region from incessant rain caused by the wrath of Lord Indra. After this feat, Lord Indra sought forgiveness from Lord Krishna.

Govardhan Puja symbolises reverence for nature. Lord Krishna emphasized the importance of keeping nature pleased for humanity's well-being. Worshiping nature as the embodiment of the divine and protecting it in every circumstance is a key lesson from Lord Krishna's teachings.

The auspicious time for the puja is from 6:35 AM to 8:00 AM. On this day, devotees engage in the worship of Govardhan Bhagwan with sincerity, focusing on Lord Krishna, and observing the tradition of offering 56 different types of delicacies to the deity.

Govardhan Puja Vidhi:

In the spirit of Annakut, the day begins with cleaning the house thoroughly. Sweeping, starting from the interior and moving outward, symbolizes the removal of poverty and negativity. After the cleaning ritual, one enters the house while making noise with a utensil to announce the arrival of prosperity. This act is performed in a manner reflecting the welcome of Goddess Lakshmi into the household.

Following this, after ablutions, a small mountain and a cow are fashioned from cow dung or clay at the main entrance of the house. These are then worshipped in the form of Govardhan. Applying saffron and vermillion, offering rice, flowers, and any other delicacy as Prasad are customary.

Devotees conclude the ritual by joining hands and praying for the continuous presence of Goddess Lakshmi's blessings in their homes.

Observing Govardhan Puja with diligence and faith is believed to invoke the constant grace of Lord Krishna, ensuring a year filled with prosperity and well-being.
