New Delhi: Thousands of government employees staged a protest on Thursday demanding amendments to the Andhra Pradesh government’s recent Pay Revision Commission.
Even though the demonstration was denied authorisation, the Andhra government staffers reached Vijayawada in different modes of transport and raised slogans against the government.
Most of the agitating employees arrived at the APNGO headquarters and the dharna chowk, where the rally was kicked off and several others joined along the route.

The BRTS road was swarming with protesting employees and teachers from across the southern state who undertook the ‘Chalo Vijayawada’ rally demanding the government to immediately roll back the ‘dark orders’ related to the pay revision.
Refuting the YSR Congress’ claim that the protestors have vested interests, the leaders of the Pay Revision Commission Struggle Committee said that this is a historic protest and even several police officials and lakhs of government employees are with the stir.
Over the last few days, the Andhra Pradesh government employees, teachers and the pensioners have been strongly opposing the recent pay revision, saying that it was detrimental to their interests.
Instead of a hike, the salary revision orders only resulted in pay cuts to them, they said.
The protestors have also warned of launching a ‘non-cooperation’ agitation from February 5 and an indefinite strike from the midnight of February 6, if their demands are not fulfilled.
