Andhra Pradesh: Child Admitted To Hospital With Monkeypox Symptoms In Vijayawada Tests Negative

A child, who returned from Dubai along with his family on Saturday, suspected of Monkeypox symptoms and was admitted to Government General Hospital here has tested negative

Vijayawada: A child, who returned from Dubai along with his family on Saturday, suspected of Monkeypox symptoms and was admitted to Government General Hospital here has tested negative for the zoonotic disease, confirmed Director of Public Health & Family Welfare, Swarajya Lakshmi.

After the child was suspected of Monkeypox symptoms, blood samples were sent to the NIV Pune for confirmation. After the child was admitted, the whole family was kept under home quarantine.

"A child admitted to GGH with monkeypox symptoms. Blood samples were sent to Pune and report for the same is awaited. The family of the child is kept under home quarantine. The family returned to India from a Saudi Arabia tour yesterday," GGH Superintendent, N Rao said, as quoted by news agency ANI.

Kerala reported the first confirmed case of monkeypox on Thursday, according to news agency ANI. As per the report, Kerala Health Minister Veena George, confirming the news, said the person is a traveller from UAE and he had reached Trivandrum airport on July 12. The minister further said that all required steps are being taken as per the guidelines issued by WHO and ICMR.
