Cyclone Michaung: Andhra Pradesh Govt Seeks Rs 3,711 Cr Compensation For Rain Damage

The Andhra Pradesh government sought financial assistance of Rs 3,711 crore from the Central team visiting the state to assess the trail of destruction left by the Cyclone 'Michaung'. The team appointed by the Centre with five members headed by National Institute of Disaster Management Executive Director Rajendra Ratnoo was in the state on a two-day visit from Tuesday.

In a press release, Andhra Pradesh State Disaster Management Authority (APSDMA) Managing Director B R Ambedkar said, "Department-wise, Roads and Buildings suffered a loss of Rs 2,641 crore, Agriculture (Rs 703 crore), Municipal Administration (Rs 100 crore), Horticulture (Rs 87 crore)."

"Altogether, we requested Rs 3,711 crore in the wake of the damage caused by Michaung," he said, as per a report on PTI. 
 
Revenue Special Chief Secretary G Sai Prasad, who also handles the disaster management department, appealed to the Central team to be liberal in granting the aid as 19 districts have been affected.

BR Ambedkar informed the Central team about the damage caused by the cyclone and gave them the latest report.

Meanwhile, Ratnoo indicated that the Central team is currently surveying the four most impacted districts—Krishna, Bapatla, Nellore, and Tirupati—and is poised to compile a comprehensive report for submission to the Central Government. The aim is to secure compensation for the state to the fullest extent possible.

During their Wednesday itinerary, the team conducted an inspection of Krishna district, engaging with a photo exhibition showcasing the extent of the damage and a PowerPoint presentation detailing crop losses in Kankipadu. Subsequently, they visited Davuluru village in Kankipadu mandal, where they assessed the aftermath, particularly focusing on the flattened paddy sheaves.
