YS Sharmila Protests In Delhi For Special Category Status, Bifurcation Promises To Andhra Pradesh
Sharmila's protest was aimed at expressing dissatisfaction with the non-conferment of special category status to Andhra Pradesh and the unfulfilled promises related to the state's bifurcation.
Y S Sharmila, the president of Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC), led a protest at Andhra Bhavan in Delhi on Friday. The protest was aimed at expressing dissatisfaction with the non-conferment of special category status to Andhra Pradesh and the unfulfilled promises related to the state's bifurcation. Sharmila staged the protest in front of B R Ambedkar statue at Andhra Bhavan with the support of Manickam Tagore and other senior APCC leaders.
Taking to X, Sharmila said, "Prime Minister Narendra Modi told at a meeting in Tirupati that special category status will be conferred to Andhra Pradesh for 10 years but why haven't the bifurcation promises fulfilled yet."

She raised concerns about unfulfilled commitments, such as the establishment of a railway zone for the southern state, the Dugarajapatnam port, the completion of the Polavaram Project, and other issues, including the Central Government's proposal to privatize the Vizag Steel Plant.
In a strong rebuke to the ruling YSRCP and the TDP, the APCC president accused both regional parties of aligning themselves with the BJP. Sharmila emphasized that these parties are answerable to the people of the state.
Prior to the protest, she held meetings with several leaders, including Sharad Pawar and Sitaram Yechury, seeking support for Andhra Pradesh's cause.
Sharmila met NCP president Sharad Pawar at his residence in New Delhi. "We have met Sharad Pawar. We have given him a petition to support us in our fight for the implementation of the AP Reorganisation Act of 2014. He has promised that he will do all he can," Sharmila said the meet.
