Champai Soren-Led Jharkhand Government To Face Trust Vote On February 5: Minister
The Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM)-led alliance, which took charge under Champai Soren's leadership, will face the floor test on the first day of the upcoming two-day assembly session.
The newly formed coalition government in Jharkhand, led by Chief Minister Champai Soren, will undergo a crucial trust vote on February 5, as informed by Minister Alamgir Alam after a Cabinet meeting on Friday. The decision was reached during the inaugural cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Champai Soren, who earlier took the oath of office at the Raj Bhavan administered by Governor C P Radhakrishnan, news agency PTI reported.
The Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM)-led alliance, which took charge under Champai Soren's leadership, will face the floor test on the first day of the upcoming two-day assembly session. Minister Alamgir Alam, revealing the government's plan, told PTI, "The floor test to prove the majority by the JMM-led alliance in the state will be held on February 5."

After assuming office, Chief Minister Champai Soren expressed his commitment to continuing the initiatives initiated by former Chief Minister Hemant Soren. He remarked, "We will carry forward the work started by Hemant Soren for four years." Additionally, Soren announced the coalition's participation in Rahul Gandhi's 'Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra,' highlighting Hemant Soren's leadership and dedication to the state's development.
JMM MLAs Fly To Hyderabad After Champai Soren's Swearing-In Ceremony
This comes as the MLAs of the ruling JMM-led coalition swiftly flew to Hyderabad, the capital of Congress-ruled Telangana, following Champai Soren's swearing-in as Chief Minister. Concerns over possible poaching attempts by the opposition BJP led to this decision, according to a senior coalition leader who stated, "We were given 10 days to prove the government's majority. We can’t take any chance during the period as the BJP might try to contact our MLAs", as quoted by PTI.
Congress leader Banna Gupta, a key member of the ruling alliance, confirmed that 38 MLAs had flown to Hyderabad, while others chose to remain in Jharkhand. The move was pre-emptive, with a video released earlier showcasing the support of 43 legislators in the 81-member Jharkhand assembly.
The urgency to shift the MLAs arose amid delays in the appointment of Champai Soren as the Chief Minister by Governor C P Radhakrishnan. The majority alliance took steps to transport its MLAs out of Jharkhand via chartered flights. However, flight delays due to poor visibility resulted in a return to the Circuit House in Ranchi after a two-hour wait at the airport.
Champai Soren, the former transport minister, assumed the leadership of the JMM legislature party following Hemant Soren's resignation as Chief Minister on Wednesday night. Hemant Soren stepped down after an extended interrogation by the Enforcement Directorate in a money laundering case, culminating in his arrest.
