Andhra Pradesh: Visakhapatnam Airport Records 30% Increase In Passenger Footfall

Visakhapatnam airport is also progressing in terms of cargo transportation.

Hyderabad: Visakhapatnam airport has recorded a 30 per cent increase in passenger footfall in the last quarter. Airport officials said that the number of people travelling from Visakhapatnam airport are increasing on a daily basis. 2,482 flights were operated in the financial year 2021–2022, while 5,313 services are already scheduled for 2022–2023.

In 2021-22, the number of travellers from Vizag airport was 2,21,980, while for the 2022-23 season, 5,94,400 people will travel from Vizag along with those already booked. Airport officials said that cargo transportation has also increased by 10 per cent. Before Covid, up to two and a half lakh passengers travelled from Vizag airport every month. The airport is currently reacquiring that status.

The number of air travellers in Vizag is increasing with the lifting of covid restrictions and increased air services. Also, domestic and foreign flight services will come to Visakhapatnam. Officials calculate that Vizag airport will soon reach the level of handling two and a half lakh passengers per day.

The airport is also progressing in terms of cargo transportation. In the first quarter of 2021-22, 1,184 tonnes of cargo was transported from Vizag Airport, which increased to 1,302 tonnes in the first quarter of this year, said officials.
