Meanwhile, TTD has drawn criticism for increasing the rentals of guesthouses and cottages at Tirumala. Despite criticism, the TTD administration has defended the decision of increasing of rentals in Tirumala in line with the facilities provided to the devotees, said a Times of India report.
"During the last three years several controversial decisions were taken by the TTD which are all aimed at distancing the devotees from Lord Venkateswara and the world-renowned hill shrine. TTD is one of the richest Charitable institutions in the country and it is unfortunate that the temple trust which had thousands of crores of rupees surplus funds has taken a decision to increase the accommodation rentals at Tirumala which has burdened the common devotees," Telugu Desam Party politburo member Kala Venkat Rao said, as quoted by ToI.
