Andhra Pradesh: Cabinet Approves Creation Of 13 New Districts

Hyderabad: The YS Jagan Mohan Reddy government in Andhra Pradesh on Tuesday has cleared 13 new districts under AP Districts Formation Act, Section 3(5). The new districts have been formed on the basis of Parliamentary constituencies. The total number of districts in the state are 26 now.
The Cabinet on Wednesday has approved the new Government Order to increase the number of districts in the state to 26. With this approval, 13 districts are added to the 13 already existing districts. The new districts will come into existence by the Ugadi festival. The government has asked for suggestions and objections on this preliminary notification within a month.
A cabinet meeting on the new districts was held online on Tuesday at 8 PM. Deputy CM Dharmana Krishnadas' proposal for new districts was tabled by the Cabinet. The cabinet approved it online.
Chief Secretary Sameer Sharma held a video conference with district collectors on Tuesday afternoon prior to the meeting and explained the process of new districts and took views and suggestions.

A committee was set up on August 7, 2020, under the auspices of the Cheif Secretary on the formation of new districts, followed by four other sub-committees on district boundaries, personnel and assets. District-level committees were also set up under the supervision of the Collectors. The planning department studied and submitted a report.
As part of forming new districts, 15 new revenue divisions have been proposed. This brings the total number of revenue divisions in the state to 62.
