The old Kanyaka Parameswari temple was renovated at a cost of Rs 11 crore four years ago. Since then, the Navaratri Dussehra celebrations have been lavishly organised every year.

Much pomp and show has been planned for this year too and the celebrations are going on with much enthusiasm.

Nellore Urban Development Authority chairman Mukkala Dwarkanath is in charge of the events. “7 kilograms of gold and 60 kg of silver are used to adorn the Goddess,” he said.

While many places worship gods with notes, people in Nellore claim it is unusual to decorate a temple with currency notes of such a high amount.
