Nominations filed in regions bordering China for Nepal polls

Mygadi [Nepal], Oct.23 (ANI): Candidates of political parties in areas in Nepal bordering China have filed their nominations for the first phase of elections for the House of Representatives and Provincial Councils, which is scheduled to be held on November 26.

The nominations filed for the House of Representatives and Provincial Councils on Sunday cover 32 of the 77 districts that were formed after the splitting of Nawalparasi and Rukum.

The second phase of elections is set for 7th of December, 2017 which is set to usher new era in Nepali politics as it is embracing implementation of newly promulgated constitution.

Candidates representing various political parties and the independent ones filed their nominations for 37 and 74 constituencies of House of Representatives and the Provincial Council.

The first phase of election will cover most of the Himalayan and high-lying areas bordering China covering: Solukhumbu, Sankhuwasabha, Bhojpur, Okhaldhunga, Taplejung, Paachthar, Khotang, Nuwakot, Rasuwa, Dhadhing, Sindhupalchowk, Dolakha, Ramechhap, Mustang, Myagdi, Baglung, Manang, Lamjung, Gorkha, Rukum's eastern part, Rolpa, Western Part's of Rukum, Jajarkot, Humla, Mugu, Kalikot, Darchula, Dolpa, Darchula, Bajhang, Bajura and Baitadi.

The aspiring candidates submitted a copy of citizenship, evidence of enlisting in voter list along with security deposit slip and the letter of recommendation from the party from they represent. The independent candidate would not require party's recommendation to stand in the fray but will need one proposer and one supporter of the proposal.

The election law of Nepal from this year bars multiple candidacies and contesting election from the FPTP system and PR system. The election commission bears the authority to annul the candidacy of any person who goes against the new provision.

The candidates contesting for the House of Representatives had to pay Nrs. 10, 000 and state assemblies had to pay Nrs. 5, 000 as security deposits whereas the Election Law of Nepal has given 50 percent waiver to women's, so called Dalit and marginalized or unprivileged groups.

The nominations for the second phase polls scheduled for December 7 will be made on 2nd November which will cover remaining 45 districts of Nepal most of which borders India, Nepal's Southern neighbour. (ANI)
