Gunmen in Thailand's insurgency-wracked south killed 15 volunteer officers and wounded five others, in attacks on two checkpoints overnight, police said Wednesday.
It’s one of the heaviest death tolls among security forces in recent years.
Some of the attackers may have been injured in an exchange of gunfire during the attack in Yala province, late Tuesday night, based on blood-stained clothing at the scene, said Col. Kiattisak Neewong, an army spokesperson.
