Union Budget 2024: Central Ministers to Hold Nationwide Press Conferences on Budget
Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman presented the Union Budget on Tuesday, addressing expectations from Narendra Modi's government. The budget aimed to benefit all economic classes, with significant relief for new tax regime taxpayers through increased standard deductions. However, short and long-term capital gains tax increases and the removal of indexation benefits caused some disappointment.
Sitharaman focused on employment, skill development, and middle-class relief. Incentives were announced for companies training staff, corporate tax cuts for foreign companies, affordable loans for higher education, and doubled Mudra loans for small businesses. Changes in the new tax regime will save the salaried class ₹17,500 annually. Family pension deductions increased to ₹25,000, benefiting around 40 million people.
