The Supreme Court imposed a stay on the North Delhi Municipal Corporation's demolition effort in Jahangirpuri to remove encroachments on Wednesday, April 20. The Supreme Court ordered a halt to the demolitions until Thursday's hearing. On April 16, Hanuman Jayanti, and April 18, Jahangirpuri was rocked by violence on consecutive days. The Delhi BJP said that people guilty of rioting in Jahangirpuri had built 'illegal buildings' in the region, which it demanded be removed. On Wednesday and Thursday, the North Delhi Municipal Corporation planned a regional anti-encroachment effort.
