Assembly Elections Result Update: BJP leads in Assam

In early trends, BJP is leading in 66 seats while Congress is ahead in 29. This count comes in as per postal ballots. ABP C-Voter Exit Poll projections suggest that BJP's contest with Congress this time is a close one.

The Congress which was superseded by BJP in 2016, formed a grand alliance with perfume baron Badruddin Ajmal’s All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) and four other parties.

The BJP had fought the 2016 Assam polls in alliance with the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) and the Bodoland People’s Front (BPF) registering a decisive victory.

The magic number in Assam is 64 seats to secure a majority.

The state underwent polls in three phases starting March 27 followed by April 1 and April 6.
