Kaun Jitega 2019(05.08.2018): Govt brainstorming over how to grant 15-18 per cent quota to economically backward classes
The Centre is mulling quota on the basis of economic conditions, under which economically weaker sections will be given 15-18 per cent reservation, sources said on Sunday.
The government is considering how it can grant 15-18 per cent quota to the economically backward classes without touching the existing reservation policy for SC/ST, OBCs and other sections, the sources said.
The discussions in this regard, according to sources, is still in its initial phase and the government has not reached any conclusion as yet.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will take a final call on this, they said.
The quota based on economic status can only be implemented by upping the 50 per cent reservation cap set by the Supreme Court, for which a constitution amendment bill may be introduced in the Parliament in the Winter session, sources added.
