People living in metropolitan cities in India know the woes faced due to traffic jams during peak office hours. Delhi, Bengalurur and Pune are well known for chronic traffic. TomTom, a Dutch location and mapping tech specialist has ranked Bengaluru the second-most congested city in the world in its Traffic Index Ranking 2022, after London.
While it takes 36 minutes and 20 seconds on average to travel 10 km in London, it takes 29 minutes and 10 seconds to travel the exact same distance in Bengaluru. The average speed during rush hour in the city centre was 18 kmph against 14kmph in 2021, according to the location and mapping company Tom Tom.

With an average travel time of 28 minutes and 30 seconds for 10 km, the Irish city Dublin is in the third spot in the city centre category of most congested cities in 2022. Sapporo in Japan, Milan in Italy are on the fourth and fifth spots, respectively, according to the index released by the company.

Pune, another city from India ranks sixth on the index, with an average travel time of 27 minutes and 20 seconds for 10 km, which is almost close to London's average travel time. Delhi and Mumbai also rank at 34 and 37 in the list, respectively.
While in the metro area category, Bogota is the most congested followed by Manila, Sapporo, Lima, Bengaluru (fifth), Mumbai (sixth), Nagoya, Pune, Tokyo and Bucharest, according to the company's report.
City centre is an urban area with a 5 km radius around the busiest part of the city. Metro area measures traffic across the urban and nearby rural region.
