Pakistan Floods: Videos Capture Trail Of Destruction Across The Country, Death Toll Over 1100
Pakistan, which is facing economic crisis, has appealed for help from all over the world.
New Delhi: India's neighboring country Pakistan is facing the brunt of catastrophic floods these days. According to media reports, 110 out of 135 districts of Pakistan are affected by this disaster. The official death toll on Monday reached 1136. The remote areas have lost contact with the main areas. Pakistan, which is facing an economic crisis, has appealed for help from all over the world.
Pakistan planning minister Ahsan Iqbal has said that the flood-ravaged country needs $10 billion to repair and rebuild the infrastructure which has been damaged due to monsoon rains.
“Massive damage has been caused to infrastructure — especially in the areas of telecommunications, roads, agriculture and livelihoods,” Iqbal was quoted as saying by the news agency AFP.
According to the National Disaster Management Authority, the agency dealing with disasters in Pakistan, so far 1136 people have lost their lives and 1634 people have been injured due to the severe floods in the country. 9,92,871 houses have either been completely destroyed or partially damaged due to the floods. Millions of people are deprived of food and pure drinking water.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has also expressed grief over the outcry caused by the floods in the neighboring country on Monday.
"Saddened to see the devastation caused by the floods in Pakistan. We extend our heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims, the injured and all those affected by this natural calamity and hope for an early restoration of normalcy," said PM Modi on Twitter.
