The sheer power and strength of a lion gives it the title ''king of the jungle". There are hardly any prey that can escape the clutches and jaws of the big cat. One such video of a buffalo being hunted down by a pride of lions has gone viral on the internet.

Shared on YouTube by Latest Sightings the clip opens to show a herd of buffaloes crossing a road as a pride of lions can be seen lounging under a tree. Soon, a lioness comes close to the calf. On seeing this, the mother buffalo quickly leads the herd towards the calf to save her young one. She courageously fights the lions to protect the calf but falls helpless in front of the sheer power of the big cats and is hunted down. 

The video from the Thornybush Game Reserve in South Africa was taken by Gavin Brett, who is a lawyer.

Since being shared, the clip has amassed over 4 lakh views and tons of comments.

"I think this is by far, the best buffalos-lions encounter I've ever seen," commented one user on the post.

"Those guys in the safari vehicle got more than their money's worth. The buffalo getting taken down right in front of their car is a sighting of a lifetime. Also, the lioness just swatting the buffalo away at 4:00 was hilarious!," wrote another user.
