The world is under lockdown in order to curb the spread of Coronavirus, while many are working remotely there is a new wave of cybercrime on the rise. From scams to spreading misinformation and even creating videos that provoke religious sentiments, social media channels are patrolling to remove any such content. Videos have surfaced which are aimed at Muslims which spread disinformation like this video which was shared on TikTok where a young man throws away a face mask to put on a Muslim skull cap then makes a gesture of praying. Such videos are dangerous and harmful in a time like today. The spread of fake news has always been a cause for concern, but when it takes dangerous routes it becomes even scarier. The incident which recently took place in Indore was the result of fake news that was spread through WhatsApp, a message was spread stating that Muslim women were being taken to be injected with the virus. Infodemic is adding to the pressures of the health care workers and police who are already working non stop to curb the spread of the Coronavirus. Phishing has become low but there are new types of fake baits scamsters are creating to hack and take the information. Like WHO asking for donations, reports have come in about very authentic-looking emails asking for contributions to fight the pandemic. An email from Vietnam even asked for donations for WHO bitcoin wallet. WHO does not have a bitcoin wallet. In order to curb the spread of the Coronavirus, the authorities around the world are following a lockdown. Practicing it for different durations and methods based on how bad it is in a country, a lockdown essentially restricts people from leaving their homes unless it is absolutely necessary. The lockdown started during mid-March in many countries. In India, a nationwide 21-day lockdown started on 25th March. Authorities are looking to extend the lockdown. If you receive any such information or news, check the source of the information. If you are unsure of a message, do not forward it.
