Ahead Of Telangana Polls, CM KCR Faces Flak Over 'Sunken Pillars' In Medigadda Barrage. BJP, Cong Mount Attack

Touted as the world’s largest multi-stage lift irrigation project, the pillars in the Medigadda barrage are said to have developed cracks.

New Delhi: Slamming K Chandrashekar Rao-led BRS government in Telangana over the alleged damage to Medigadda barrage under the Kaleswaram project, Union Minister and state BJP chief G Kishan Reddy said the chief minister should take moral responsibility for it and sought a comprehensive inquiry into the damage caused, news agency PTI reported.

Touted as the world’s largest multi-stage lift irrigation project, the pillars in the barrage are said to have developed cracks and the pillars 15 to 20 between the sixth and eighth blocks reportedly sunk on October 21, National Dam Safety Authority (NDSA) said.

“The BRS government spent thousands of crores on the Kaleswaram project. But this project made by KCR government is sinking now. The future of this project is uncertain due to the corrupt government. The money invested in it is wasted now. I demand a judicial inquiry into this,” Reddy told news agency ANI.

The state BJP chief also lashed out at the Telangana government for allegedly not providing the necessary information to the National Dam Safety Authority team that had visited the site last month.

He, however, assured that if voted to power in the upcoming assembly elections, the BJP would conduct a thorough probe into the issue and take action against whoever is found to be responsible for the lapses.

Taking potshots at the KCR government and accusing it of corruption, Congress leader Ajoy Kumar, as quoted by ANI, said, “National Dam Safety Authority clearly says that KCR-led BRS government in Telangana has swindled money from the state for this project. The barrage, that was supposed to provide water for drinking and irrigation purpose to the people of the southern state, has no water now. To prevent the barrage from further damage before the state elections, they (Telangana government) are releasing the water. So after the elections, there will be no water for the people of Telangana.”
