ECI Delegation To Visit Telangana From June 22 To 24 To Check Poll Preparedness

The ECI delegation, headed by Senior Deputy Election Commissioner Dharmendra Sharma, will focus on firming up strategies regarding election security-related issues.

A team from the Election Commission of India (ECI) will visit Telangana for three days starting from June 22 to evaluate and ensure the state's preparedness for the Legislative Assembly election, which is set to take place later this year. The Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of the state, Vikas Raj, made the announcement in a joint meeting convened by him on Wednesday with DGP Anjani Kumar to discuss and assess the state's poll preparedness, PTI reported.

The meeting was aimed to inform the district collectors and superintendents of police about the impending assembly election.

The delegation will commence their visit by meeting the CEO of Telangana, the Special Police Nodal Officer, and the CAPF (Central Armed Police Forces) Nodal Officer. These discussions will facilitate the exchange of insights and strategies regarding election security-related issues.

The ECI delegation will then engage in extensive consultations with district collectors, superintendents of police, and various enforcement agencies, including the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT), the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), the Excise Department, the state Goods and Services Tax (GST) and Central GST departments, the Enforcement Directorate, the State Level Bankers Committee (SLBC), the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI), the Railway Protection Force (RPF), the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), and the state Commercial Tax Department.

During the meeting, DGP Anjani Kumar highlighted the crucial role of district police officers in ensuring a smooth and secure election. He emphasised the need for adequate manpower and instructed officers to map border check posts while facilitating cross-functional training with agencies like the Income Tax and GST.
