A Muslim man was assaulted and publicly paraded naked by a mob in the presence of villagers in Sangareddy of Telangana. The mob also tried to set the man's private parts on fire. This reprehensible incident occurred as a response to the victim's posting of a video insulting the bhagwa or saffron flag.
In the video, the Muslim man, Abbas, hailing from Nagal Gidda village in Sangareddy District, displayed disrespect towards the majority community in the village by inserting the saffron flag with 'Om' into his pants in a derogatory manner. The video gained widespread attention, leading to him being forcibly taken away from his home.
Later, the mob physically assaulted him and paraded him naked. The mob also chanted 'Jai Shri Ram' while assaulting the Muslim man. Some of them also attempted to the man by putting his private parts on fire.
Upon receiving information, the police intervened and rescued Abbas. Villagers filed a complaint against him, alleging that he had hurt the sentiments of Hindus. Consequently, Abbas was booked under IPC sections 153(a), 295-A, and 505(2).
In response, Abbas lodged a complaint against the villagers for assaulting him. Subsequently, the police filed charges against the locals under IPC sections 341 (Punishment for wrongful restraint), 323 (punishment for voluntarily causing hurt), 505(2), and 506 (Punishment for criminal intimidation).
Further, investigations are on.
