Vibrant Gujarat Summit: Micron To Set Up Semiconductor Plant, Will Create 5,000 Direct Jobs

During his address at the Vibrant Gujarat Summit 2024, Sanjay Mehrotra, the CEO of Micron Technology, shed light on the tremendous opportunities awaiting India in the field of semiconductors. The three-day-long summit aims to deliver forward-thinking ideas crucial for India's emergence as a formidable semiconductor hub. The upcoming Micron facility, spanning 500,000 square feet of clean room space, is projected to be operational by early 2025. This strategic move is expected to generate a significant impact, with Micron planning to create 5,000 direct job opportunities and an additional 15,000 indirect jobs.

The total investment earmarked for Micron's semiconductor unit is estimated to reach approximately $2.75 billion, signalling a substantial commitment to bolstering India's semiconductor capabilities. At the summit, Reliance chief Mukesh Ambani unveiled Gujarat's attainment of complete 5G enablement, marking a significant technological achievement surpassing benchmarks set by various nations worldwide.
