UPI One World Launched: Know Everything About India's Digital Wallet For International Visitors

UPI One World wallet is designed to cater to tourists from countries that have partnered with India's Unified Payments Interface (UPI) system.

The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) on Monday launched a new digital payment solution called 'UPI One World' for international visitors to India. UPI One World wallet is designed to cater to tourists from countries that have partnered with India's Unified Payments Interface (UPI) system. The primary goal of this initiative is to provide foreign travellers with a convenient and efficient way to make digital transactions during their stay in India.

This user-friendly payment option is expected to enhance the overall travel experience for international visitors, allowing them to focus on enjoying India's attractions without worrying about currency exchange or carrying cash.

The launch of the UPI One World is a joint initiative involving multiple stakeholders. The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) has partnered with IDFC First Bank and Transcorp International Limited to introduce this payment solution. The project has been developed and implemented under the supervision of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI). This new payment system is not entirely novel, as it expands upon a similar technology that was initially showcased during the G20 summit in New Delhi last year.

UPI One World Wallet Availability

The UPI One World wallet extends the benefits of India's Unified Payments Interface (UPI) system to a wide range of international visitors. This digital payment solution is designed to be accessible to tourists from various countries, significantly expanding the reach of UPI beyond India's borders.

In addition to its general availability, the wallet service will be made available to attendees of the World Heritage Committee meeting. This important event is scheduled to take place in New Delhi from July 21-July 31. By providing this service to delegates, the organisers aim to facilitate smoother financial transactions during the conference, allowing participants to focus on the meeting's agenda rather than payment logistics.

The UPI One World wallet offers several advantages for international travellers. Here are the key features of UPI One World wallet service:

Simplified Currency Handling

This digital solution eliminates the need for visitors to carry physical cash or navigate complex foreign exchange processes.

Convenient Acquisition

Travellers can obtain the wallet from approved Prepaid Payment Instrument (PPI) providers at various locations, including airports, hotels, and currency exchange offices. It will also be available at Bharat Mandapam, which is hosting the World Heritage Committee meeting.

Identity Verification

To access the wallet, users must complete a comprehensive Know Your Customer (KYC) procedure, presenting their passport and a valid visa.

Easy Transactions And Refunds

The wallet enables payments through QR code scanning at participating merchants. Any remaining funds can be returned to the original payment method in accordance with foreign exchange rules. This innovative approach aims to streamline financial transactions for international visitors, enhancing their travel experience in India.
