Scam Call, Fake Delivery Guy, & A Coupon For Consolation: Swiggy Customer's Shocking Ordeal Raises Safety Alarms

Calling out the company’s lack of safeguards, the user didn’t hold back: “Swiggy, get serious. You’re not just losing trust — you’re risking lives.”

A food delivery gone wrong has sparked serious concerns over customer safety and accountability at Swiggy, after a user exposed what appears to be a potential scam involving a fake delivery agent — and a shockingly casual response from the platform.

When Dinner Turned Into a Red Flag

In a now-viral Instagram reel, a Swiggy user Ritesh Mishra (@ritxsh_03) detailed how a routine food order turned into a nerve-wracking experience. The app showed repeated delays, with no clear updates or alerts. The rider’s location was static, and estimated delivery times kept stretching, but there was no communication from Swiggy.

But then came a phone call. “Sir, there’s a billing issue. Swiggy hasn’t processed the payment. We’re sending our own guy. Just pay him — we’ll manage the refund.”

The caller sounded calm and professional. But what followed was far from standard procedure.

No Badge, No ID — Just A Stranger At The Door

Soon after the call, a man claiming to be the delivery person showed up. He wore no uniform, had no Swiggy identification, and didn’t present any proof of employment.

Feeling suspicious, the customer began recording the interaction. That’s when the excuses started pouring in — “He’s our employee,” and “Talk to our team leader,” were some of the vague explanations given.

Refusing to fall for it, the customer sent the man back and declined to pay. It was clear this wasn’t just a delayed order — it was a scam attempt.

Even more shocking was Swiggy’s response: no fraud alert, no safety communication — just a promo code.

“Sorry sir, here’s a coupon,” was all the user received.

'This Is Dangerous, Not Just Shady'

Calling out the company’s lack of safeguards, the user didn’t hold back: “Swiggy, get serious. You’re not just losing trust — you’re risking lives.”

The reel ends with a warning to others: if delivery times keep stretching and you receive suspicious calls, don’t fall for them. Don’t accept food from unverified individuals, and never pay outside the app — no matter how convincing the caller sounds.

“No ID checks. No verified delivery. No accountability,” the user emphasised. “And instead of protecting customers, Swiggy is sweeping it under the rug with promo codes.”

Others Share Similar Stories — But Swiggy Stays Silent

Following the viral post, several users commented that they had faced similar experiences, not just on Swiggy, but even on rival platform Zomato. Despite the growing chorus of concern, Swiggy has yet to issue a formal response or address the gaps in its delivery and fraud detection system.
